Dear Hug Bug Friends,
Hello, Hola, Bonjour! Happy Spring! Happy Easter! Happy Earth Day!

by Charlotte Diamond
Hello, Springtime, how are you today?
I’m so glad that you have come my way.
Hello, Springtime, say, you’re looking fine,
I’ll put on my rubber boots and we can have a time.
In the mud puddles, splashing, making mud pies
Looking for baby birds under rainy skies,
Flowers pop up into colours bright,
Taking off my winter coat is always a delight!
and in “A World of Music Music Book“

Sing through the Seasons. Winter, Springtime, Summer or Fall. Which one is your favourite? I think I like them all!
What do you like best about Springtime? Around us, everything is growing and changing. I like to smell the flowers and the new green leaves on the trees. Nature is waking up!
Animals are coming out of hibernation. Songbirds are singing, and soon there will be baby birds.
When you go walking, you can discover a rainbow of colours: purple and orange crocuses, white snowdrops, yellow daffodils and pink cherry tree blossoms, falling like snow.

Cherry Blossoms in a Vancouver Park
We are like flowers, with so many colours, personalities, shapes, and sizes. There is beauty in each one of us!

CHORUS
Each of us is a Flower,
Growing in life’s garden,
Each of us is a Flower,
We need the Sun and Rain.
Sun, shine your warmth on me,
Moon, cool me with your night,
Wind, bring the gentle rain,
Earth, take my roots down deep.
From “10 Carrot Diamond” and “24 Carrot Diamond”
In French “Nous sommes tous comme les fleurs.” In Spanish, “Somos Como Las Flores”

Make your own flower hats, headbands or costumes. Create a dance with actions or sign language!
There are illustrated Song Cards for many of my songs to help you learn the words. Here is a sample of “Each of Us is a Flower” for you to colour and read.

Let’s Celebrate Earth Day in April! Here is a song for Earth Day that you can sing every day of the year.

By Andy Ruszel SOCAN
1.
When I go walking I like to see
The waves on the water, the flowers in the fields
My brothers and sisters, the friends on my street
Laughing and playing and singing so free.
CHORUS
Earth and water, air and fire
The worm digs deeper and the robin flies higher
We’re all part of one family
The sun and the earth and you and me
The sun and the earth and you and me.
2.
Where does it come from the air we all breathe?
Where is it going the water in the stream?
Small is the seed and big is the tree
Hey, ain’t that little seed just a little like me.
CHORUS
Listen to this song on “Diamonds and Dragons”, “24 Carrot Diamond”,
or on “A World of Music with Charlotte Diamond”

We share our Earth with animals, trees, plants, and all living things on land, in the air and in the sea. We are all connected. You may have pets that are part of your family. They become your friends, and you learn how to care for them. “Animals Have Personality” just like us.
I often whistle to the wild birds in our forest. Sometimes they call back! There are two squirrels that peek in my sliding glass doors, waiting for a peanut. We often see racoons, black bears, deer, and a coyote in the woods or down by the seashore. Seals and otters swim by, and luckily, we have seen Orcas, porpoises, and dolphins. My grandsons love finding crabs, clams, oysters and sand dollars at the beach!

My Picture Book, “Charlotte Diamond’s Animal Friends” has a great action and echo song about swimming, called “Splishin’ and Splashin’.” Summer weather is on the way, and I hope that you like to swim, splash, and jump in the water as much as I do! Most animals can swim. Dogs paddle, otters slide, porpoises flip and whales spout and breach. Always be safe near water and, if you can, take some lessons to become a strong and confident swimmer.
By Charlotte Diamond and Paul Gitlitz SOCAN 1998
As recorded on “Charlotte Diamond’s World” and “World of Music” Music Book and CD
CHORUS
Splishin’… Splashin’
Splishin’ and Splashin’ around in the water
I’m Splishin’… Splashin’
Jumping around making waves.
1.
I can dive in the water …
Slide like an otter…
Flip like a porpoise, spout like a whale.
I can leap like a salmon…
Float like a seahorse …
Slap like a beaver and I don’t need a tail.
CHORUS
2.
I can croak like a frog …
Hop off a log …
Dabble like a duck and glide like a swan.
I can bark like a seal …
Spark like an eel …
Meow like a catfish deep in the pond.
CHORUS
