Fall 2009 Newsletter

This has been a busy year, writing new songs and touring around Canada and the USA. If you visit my web site in the coming weeks, you will see some of my new songs appearing as downloads. You may already know my song, “Sherry’s Cookies.” My friend, Sherry, loves to bake cookies to give as gifts! With so many celebrations in the fall, like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, followed by the Winter Holidays, it is fun to make cookies for your family and friends. What is your favourite cookie? If you have a good recipe, please email it to me and I will share it in the Hug Bug Club.

Chorus:

Sherry’s cookies, what a delight!
Sherry’s cookies ready to bite,
Sherry’s cookies, Oh, what fun!
I want to taste every one.

Made with care and taking time,
A gift for friends that looks so fine,
Tied with a ribbon in a box,
I hope she’s making lots and lots… lots and lots of …

Chorus

Hug Bug cookies and chocolate chip,
Peanut butter and oatmeal are always a hit!
Gingerbread and butterscotch,
I hope she’s making lots and lots… lots and lots of …

Chorus

Savour each cookie and make it last
The celebration will soon be past.
For special gifts, you have to wait
For it takes time to create…

Chorus

Mothers and Daughters, Fathers and Sons,
Find a recipe; let’s have some fun
Bake some cookies for the family
A gift of love that’s oh, so yummy!
Yummy in your tummy!

Chorus

The cooler weather and the rainy days make me want to curl up with a blanket and read a book. Did you know that if someone reads to us at least “Three Books a Day” when we are young, we will grow up to love books and enjoy reading on our own? My mom used to read to my sister and me beside the fireplace. It was always toasty and warm. Her voice would take us into the world of imagination. What is your favourite book? I wrote this song, “Three Books a Day” to the tune of “Four Hugs a Day.” You probably can sing it on your own right now.

3booksaday

by Charlotte Diamond

Nobody reads enough books a day,
‘Cause the minimum number is three,
We can read everywhere, on the floor, in a chair,
On a bus; there are stories to read.

Chorus:

Three books a day, that’s the minimum.
Three books a day, not the maximum.
Three books a day, that’s the minimum.
Three books a day, not the maximum.

Step One: Read a sign on the street,
Step Two: On the foods that we eat,
Step Three: In a comic book,
Step Four: A recipe that we cook.

Chorus

Whale

Step One: Let’s read about whales,
Step Two: Or a dragon’s tale,
Step Three: Solve a mystery,
Step Four: Dive under the sea.

Boy reading with woman

Don’t forget, your Mama and Papa,
Grandma and Grandpa can read to you, too,
Brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles;
Have some fun; it’s easy to do.

Girls reading with woman

Let’s read: One, Two, Three or more!
Let’s read: One, Two, Three or more!
Let’s read…

Chorus

Don’t forget to read at least three books a day!

Mem Fox, an Australian author of wonderful children’s books, said in her book, “Reading Magic:”

“If every parent and every adult caring for a child read aloud a minimum of three stories a day to the children in their lives, we could probably wipe out illiteracy with one generation.”
